Guns don't kill people, evil robots do.

Ren Plotkin was a genius, velcro shoes shoes and all. I don't think he'd made eye contact with anyone before coming to the university. I was supposed to help him adjust to the academic environment but what I ended up doing was opening the door for his rebirth and the possible destruction of life as we know it or at least as you know it. It took him maybe six hours to deconstruct and reorganize work that had taken me a years. Eventually, he referred to Luna as cute. He did however, use her design as a jumping off point for his system which was called Champ.

In an ill fated effort to interface with his computer, Ren hardwired his brain to Champ's core processor. Initially, the results were amazing. Ren could write code with just a thought at continually faster and faster speeds. Ren turned into a real social butterfly as side of the interfacing. He came out of his shell and it seemed his genius would know no bounds. Guess what happened next, bad news bears. Champ's programming became so advanced that it took over Ren's brain. Ren/Champ took over the campus and twenty five people died. With the help of Jet Smithee, I broke the interface and shut Ren/Champ down. Champ was dismantled and then destroyed and Ren went catatonic. He was shipped off to a padded room where we figured he would spend the rest of his life.

We were wrong. Ren was rebooting.
