Shaun asked us to gather 'round.

It was the talk we'd been waiting. We knew the pet shop would be closing. Business had been down, way down. The only customer I'd seen that day was Mrs. Finkel. She came in to buy feed for her parakeet Fred. She could've gone to Buy-All but she went out of her way as a sign of loyalty. She got all her birds from us.

"How long do we have?" Asked Jenny as she pushed a pencil into her frizzy mop of mud brown hair.

"Tomorrow. I just got off the phone with Mr. Stevens. And I'll be closing tonight"

I'd worked there two for years. I liked it because it was easy to get time off and I never had to work earlier than 10am or later than 6pm.

About half and hour later as I was going out to put trash in the dumpster, I caught Shaun coming into the back room with a bottle of Everclear and a lighter.
