Extinction

The small toy dinosaurs of different colors and species crowded their small plastic heads through the back slats of the little yellow chair. From this position, I couldn't decide if they were trying to enter or escape. Though frozen, they seemed much more lively than I. I hadn't moved from the couch for more than an hour. Even after Jason came back with the dinner he knew I wouldn't eat, I still felt like a fossil.

"You think it was the pills?"
"Of course it was the pills. That's why I took them."
"Shelly's gonna be mad."
"She's always mad. Just go without me."
"It's not like she gets promoted every day."
"Sure she does."

And Jason left me.
