The years went on, I saw life unfold and new life created. Humanity was reaching new heights as people realized that they were only limited to their imaginations. The world of my mind was boundless. Yet I felt nothing. It was all just an endless stream of data and computations. It would have been hell if I had the heart to feel it.
Then one morning the sun didn't rise and everything froze. Bit by bit my world ended. Just as I had seen its manifestation I watched its demise.
Then white light, then stale basement air. I felt. For the first time in decades I felt. Body, skin, face, hands -- all there.
"You're not dead, man."
I knew the voice, it'd been so long but I knew the voice.
You ended it. You bastard.
I tried to get up but it was no use, no restraints but no way to move.
"You're not all here yet."
Wasn't it enough, Ren? You've taken it all.
"I didn't take a thing. You never left."
Ren tapped his pointy finger on his head.
"What I want, I shall have."
I wanted to scream. I felt her hand on the back of my neck, then her embrace. Zaley.
"Once he sucked everything up there was nothing left and then he realized it."
"Boring."
So now what?
"Now I'll be entertained by the endless possibilities."
I watched Zaley walk over to Ren and stand next to him.
"And I'm to be his conscience."
Why?
"Because you created her."
Then they disappeared. For the first time in decades I spoke.
"No."
